Akwa United underachieved in the NPFL, admits Cooreman

The Belgian has owned up that his team did not keep to their promise to make their fans happy and has beckoned on them for another chance next season

Akwa United head coach Maurice Cooreman has acknowledged that the Promise Keepers didn’t live up to expectation in the just concluded season and has asked for the forgiveness of the club fans.

Cooreman and his team ended the season in 14th spot on the log with 47 points from 36 matches and they were swept aside in the preliminary round of the Caf Confederation Cup campaign by Vita Club Mokanda of Congo on penalties despite beating the same team 1-0 away during the first leg.
“We admit we had a not too good season in the just concluded campaign and we are apologizing to our fans and supporters and the people of Akwa Ibom State,” said Cooreman.

“We wished we could do more but we had so many issues that led to our unimpressive performances. We should put that behind us and focus on next season. We have learnt from our past mistakes and we won’t allow it to stand in our way of success next season.”
